The US airline Delta Air Lines sees itself on the up again after a first quarter with deep red figures.
"We returned to profitability in March," CEO Ed Bastian announced on Wednesday. Business recovered quickly after the setback caused by the omicron variant of the corona virus that was rampant at the beginning of the year. The outlook was well received by investors – the share temporarily rose by more than six percent before the market.
In the three months ended March, Delta suffered a loss of $940 million. In addition to Omikron, the high fuel prices also had a negative impact. However, US airlines have now sharply increased prices in response to high demand. Delta now anticipates a rapid return to similar levels of business as before the pandemic. However, sales in the first quarter of 867 billion dollars were still eleven percent below the comparative value of 9,3.
