According to the current Airhelp Score 2023, Eurowings is currently the second most customer-friendly airline in the world. The air passenger rights organization Airhelp compared a total of 83 carriers. Qatar Airways landed in first place.

Punctuality, customer satisfaction and, in particular, the handling of compensation claims were examined. Eurowings ended up in second place, but otherwise the German airlines, including parent company Lufthansa, didn't exactly do particularly well.

Qatar Airways again in first place

Qatar Airways remains undefeated in first place for the ninth time. With 8,38 out of ten points in the overall ranking, the airline even improved by 0,27 points compared to the previous year. Eurowings comes in second place, 0,11 points behind - with a total score of 8,27, the German airline climbs four places compared to the last ranking. LOT Polish Airlines comes in third with 8,11 points.

European airlines have an average of 6,9 points - although some European airlines have improved significantly compared to the previous year. Third-placed LOT Polish Airlines has made up nine places compared to the previous year, Austrian Airlines four (from tenth to sixth), Brussels Airlines 13 (from 25th to twelve) and Finnair 14 (from 27th to 13th). Overall, European airlines were able to increase their score by an average of 0,25 points compared to last year.

International bottom

The last five finishers come from all directions. Two European airlines are also joining in. Tunisair takes 4,12rd and last place with an overall rating of 83 points, followed by British Airways (5,03). The Turkish airline Pegasus Airlines and Frontier Airlines from the USA are tied in the overall ranking with 5,18 points. With a score of 5,2 points, Czech Airlines ranks 79th in an international comparison.

Eurowings and Oman Air are the most punctual airlines

The Qatari airline is the overall winner, but in terms of punctuality Qatar Airways only comes in eighth place. The most punctual airlines are Eurowings and Oman Air with 9,3 points. Garuda Indonesia and the Colombian airline Avianca follow in second and third place with nine and 8,7 points respectively. The worst results in terms of punctuality are delivered by the airlines Tunisair (3,7 points), Air Malta (4,5 points) and TUI Airways (five points).

Asian airlines impress when it comes to customer satisfaction

There are nine airlines from Asia in the top 10 for customer satisfaction. With 8,9 points, three airlines share first place: Emirates, Garuda Indonesia and All Nippon Airways. Close behind, alongside the overall winner Qatar Airways, are the airlines Singapore Airlines and Korean Air with 8,8 points. In third place (8,7 points) is the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, Etihad Airways, which is in fourth place in the overall ranking.

Overall, customers seem to be reasonably satisfied with the world's airlines. Tunisair is in last place with 6,5 points – just ahead of Ryanair and Spirit with 6,7 points.

Brussels Airlines and China Airlines handle compensation requests best

Anyone who wants to assert their right to compensation in the event of delays or flight cancellations will be ignored by many airlines. But not with Brussels Airlines and China Airlines, which take first place in the category with 8,2 points. In second place are airBaltic, SAS Scandinavian Airlines and United Airlines with 8,1 points. The airlines Eurowings and Qatar Airways, which have already been mentioned several times, take third place.

The most difficult thing may be to obtain compensation from British Airways: the British airline only receives one point in the category. In second-to-last place is the Kingdom of Bahrain's state airline, Gulf Air, with 1,4 points. The airlines Vietnam Airlines, Aircalin and Czech Airlines are only slightly better with 1,7 points.

“As a German company, we are personally very pleased that second place among the world’s best airlines goes to a German airline. At the same time, with the rankings of Condor (44) and Lufthansa (57), we see great potential for improvement among the German airlines. Our analysis should also help to initiate further development. “First and foremost, we are there for dissatisfied passengers to support them in their rights and hope to optimize air traffic for all sides,” says Tomasz Pawliszyn, CEO of Airhelp.
