On June 12, 2022, the summer timetable came into force for rail traffic. According to its own statements, Deutsche Bahn AG is offering more capacity than ever before. For the first time, the three million seats have been exceeded, which is 20 percent more than the offer that was available in summer 2019.

In the area of ​​ICE long-distance trains, 32 of the so-called XXL variants would be used. These have an increased seating capacity and should be able to carry up to 1.000 passengers. From Chemnitz there are two daily intercity trains. These are served with sets bought second-hand from Westbahn and also lead to Berlin-Brandenburg Airport.

Another new feature is that a connection has been established from Flensburg via Hamburg, Berlin and Dresden to Prague. After the completion of construction work, intercity traffic between Sylt and Berlin was reactivated. There is a new Eurocity connection between Zurich and Lindau. At the weekends there are additional trains from Berlin to Warnemünde and Rostock and from Dresden via the German capital to Rügen and Stralsund. Between June 18 and August 21, 2022, the offer between Hamburg and Copenhagen will be doubled to six course pairs.
