The holiday destination of Sharm el Sheikh in the Sinai is in danger of being sidelined for tourism in winter. Parallel to the failure of the Russian and Ukrainian markets, the German market is also likely to disappear from mid-December: From then on, according to the current status, there will be hardly any direct flights from Germany to Sharm el Sheikh.

Up until September it looked as if at least two airlines, Corendon and Freebird, would be flying directly from Germany to the Sinai. After Corendon's cancellation, Freebird initially remained the sole provider, but recently the subsidiary airline of the Turkish Gözen Holding also canceled one flight after the other. A few Friday flights from Cologne can currently still be booked, as reported by touristik-aktuell.de. Tour operators are currently looking for suitable airline partners to maintain the connection.

Without direct flights, Sharm el Sheikh can only be reached by scheduled flights, for example with Egypt Air via Cairo or with Turkish Airlines via Istanbul. From Austria there is exactly one direct connection, the Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air flies twice a week from Vienna Airport to the Egyptian holiday destination.
