From July 28, 2021, fully vaccinated people can also travel to Germany from high-risk and high-incidence areas without quarantine. But what about their children, who in many cases have no access to vaccinations due to their age? These must be in quarantine, clarifies the German Federal Ministry of Health.

This leads to the absurd fact that fully vaccinated parents do not have to go into isolation, but their unvaccinated children do. The Robert Koch Institute specifies which vaccine exempts from quarantine on its website. The health authorities of the federal states have to adhere to this.

Children under six years of age are generally not required to test, but the authorities can also impose a quarantine on them. The Federal Ministry of Health used the wording “Children are therefore fundamentally subject to segregation”. From this age and for young people, the same provisions apply as for adults, even if no vaccination is permitted at all due to age. This means that those coming from virus variant areas have to be quarantined, but their fully vaccinated parents do not.

In areas of high incidence, children and adolescents who have gone through Corona can benefit from the relief for those who have recovered. Those who have been tested can continue to test themselves after five days. However: If the young person is neither vaccinated nor recovered, they have to quarantine themselves for 14 days from virus variant areas and there is no possibility of free testing. Again the note: Fully vaccinated parents no longer have to be in isolation from July 28, 2021.
