In Germany, package travelers can no longer rely on the fact that free cancellation is possible in the event of a travel warning. More and more tour operators refuse to do so and this is directly related to the inflationary pronouncement of this measure by the federal government.
In Germany it has never been anchored in law that in the event of travel warnings you can cancel your booking free of charge. It was a "lived practice". Now more and more tour operators are no longer prepared to take the risk of the "corona-related travel warnings".
This is also used to sell additional packages that are subject to a fee. If you decide on a “Flex Package” when booking, you can usually still cancel or rebook in the event of travel warnings. If you don't want that, more and more tour operators are no longer allowing free changes.
The practice of travel warnings is repeatedly criticized because it also suggests that the corona situation in Germany would be ideal. Thus, many weigh themselves in a false sense of security. At the same time, the inflationary expression of this recommendation has meant that it is no longer taken seriously by tour operators and their customers. The result: no free cancellation of travel warnings.
