The Bonn-based express service provider DHL Express and Eviation, US manufacturer of electric aircraft, are intensifying their cooperation in the future.
The Express Division of Deutsche Post DHL Group was the first company in the world to order twelve "Alice" electric aircraft, according to a press release. With the order, DHL plans to set up the first electric and thus emission-free air freight network. The Alice e-plane is intended to enable airlines to operate emission-free fleets.
Eviation expects to deliver the electric cargo aircraft to DHL Express in 2024 - the maiden flight should take place this year. We firmly believe in the emission-free future of logistics, ”emphasizes John Pearson, CEO of DHL Express. “DHL Express has been a pioneer in the aviation industry for decades and in Eviation we have found the perfect partner who shares our mission. Together we dare to embark on a new decade of sustainable aviation. "
Maximum range of 815 kilometers
Alice, according to the company, can be flown by a single pilot and can carry over 1.200 kilograms (2.600 pounds) of cargo. The charging time per flight hour is therefore around 30 minutes, the maximum range is 815 kilometers (440 nautical miles). Due to the lower number of moving parts, their electric motors are highly reliable, require little maintenance and are therefore cost-efficient.
