Since Amerer Air withdrew from the air freight segment in 2012, there is no longer a pure cargo airline in Austria. That is changing now, because the logistics group DHL has founded an offshoot in the Alpine republic.

The new company will be based near the capital Vienna and operate Boeing 757F machines. These are transmitted by sister company DHL Air UK. In return, the British cargo airline will focus more on long-haul traffic. To this end, Boeing 777Fs will be floated.

"With the new airline, we are not only adapting our European network to changed regulations, but also preparing it for further growth," explains Roy Hughes, Head of the European Air Freight Network at DHL Express. “With this step, we are serving the continued high demand from our customers for cross-border express deliveries and we can provide them with sufficient express capacities. With the new structure, we can make our air traffic network in Europe more flexible and stable and at the same time ensure better integration into our global network through a higher number of intercontinental flights. "

“The location decision for Austria is a strong signal for our country,” explains Magnus Brunner, State Secretary for Aviation. “A new airline with an Austrian license that is supposed to create new jobs on the ground - that is, in administration - creates added value. With this location decision, the quality of Austro Control is recognized. This confirms the competence of Austro Control and the Supreme Civil Aviation Authority based in the BMK. The State Secretary also refers to Austria's geographical location in the heart of Europe: Due to its infrastructure, Austria has a central position and is a hub between West and East as well as between North and South. Austria thus offers the best framework conditions for domestic and foreign companies. "
