Volocopter today received the approval to establish air taxi services in Singapore.

In cooperation with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), the German company plans to implement corresponding services within the next three years. Singapore aims to be the first city in Asia to introduce commercial air taxi services. The German company has been operating in the city-state for around two years and has already completed test flights there.

They could one day replace taxis, trains, buses or small planes - but until that happens, eVTOLs (Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing) will first serve as a substitute for helicopters that take tourists to lofty heights for sightseeing. This means that the first use case for the hyped flying taxis is clear. The Southeast Asian city-state of Singapore and the German startup Volocopter have reached an agreement on this.

The plan is to first use the two-seater, which resembles a helicopter, in tourism. The first route is expected to be a tourist route along the southern coast, offering views of the famous Marina Bay skyline. It is already clear how much these flights will cost. In a marketing campaign, those interested were able to buy tickets for the first flights for 300 euros each, like trendingtopics.at reported.

Volocopter flying taxis are emission-free, electrically powered aircraft that take off and land vertically. They are designed to complement urban mobility and fly up to two passengers directly and quietly to their destination. As such, they will offer a whole new dimension of quality of life in cities.
