Travelers who are on vacation in the Maltese Islands should arrive at Luqa Airport in good time for their return flight. All passengers have to go to the check-in counter of their airline, because the airport has a mandatory document check carried out.

Passengers of the low-cost airlines Ryanair and Wizzair in particular should note that online check-in must still be carried out. If no boarding pass can be presented at the counter - either on the smartphone or printed out - the two low costers charge horrific fees for check-in at the counter.

During the mandatory document check, which unfortunately is carried out at a rather leisurely pace, the boarding pass, the vaccination, test or recovery certificate (depending on the destination and entry requirements) and, if necessary, the PLF and entry forms of the destination country are checked. The agent then issues a small confirmation.

Without this manually filled in slip, the security personnel will refuse access to the security area. If it is still possible to “switch through” the airline can refuse boarding. Since all travelers have to go to the check-in counter, this should definitely be taken into account, as there are sometimes long and absolutely pointless queues.
