At the German regional airport in Dortmund there was no big rush during the two-week autumn vacation of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The airport counted 63.242 travelers, 51 percent fewer than in the same period of the previous year. There were also eleven percent fewer flights.

“This year the vacation was not taking place at the airport,” sums up airport boss Ludger van Bebber. “As a rule, the number of passengers increases during the holiday season compared to the previous weeks. This year we saw the opposite effect. In the two weeks before the autumn break, 6 percent more passengers used the airport. "

Most of the passengers flew from Dortmund to Romania (10.164 passengers) or Poland (9.675 passengers) during the autumn break. The connections to these two countries are mainly used by people visiting families and friends abroad. As the only tourist destination, Greece experienced a significant increase in passengers with 8.441 passengers compared to the same period in the previous year (1.356 passengers). The reasons for this are the greatly expanded range of Wizz Air services to Greece and the fact that Greece was not defined as a risk area.
