DR Congo: Motorcyclist crashes Dash 8-400

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, an absolutely unusual incident occurred on Saturday when the DHC Dash 8-400 with the registration 9S-AAN landed. The turboprop aircraft collided with a motorcyclist.

According to official information, the motorcycle is ready to be scrapped, but both the occupants of the turboprop aircraft and the driver should be in good health. As a precaution, the man who had obviously lost his way on the runway was taken to a hospital for an examination. There it is said to have been given the green light.

But how does a private motorcyclist get onto the runway at Lubumbashi Airport? This is exactly what the Prime Minister wants to know and has ordered a detailed investigation into the incident. Local media write that there should be no fencing around the airport area and that locals use an "abbreviation" here and there.

The Congo Airways plane suffered not inconsiderable damage as a result of the incident. These primarily affect the chassis and nose of the DHC Dash 8-400. Most importantly, it seems that all passengers, crew members and the motorcyclist were very lucky in the accident.
