On Sunday, Ryanair flight FR205 had to make an emergency call due to a fire warning. The Boeing 737-800 with the registration EI-DWD was en route from London-Stansted to Dublin. The plane landed safely. The carrier speaks of a "small technical problem" in a statement.

The 13-year-old medium-haul jet took off from Stansted at 10-18 GMT. The flight went smoothly for around an hour before the following radio message was sent after landing: “Mayday, Mayday, Mayday. Ryanair Eight Bravo. Wheel well fire indication request fire service. Just stopped on the runway ”. The pilot then asked for information as to whether the tower could see fire or smoke. He replied “negatives”. A slight smoke would only have been visible at the end of the braking process.

The warning system of the Boeing 737-800 warned the pilots of a possible fire in the area of the landing gear. This was taken very seriously by the pilots, so in a further radio message the fire brigade urged them and also pointed out that they urgently ask for a visual inspection to be carried out to make sure that no fire has broken out. Otherwise the evacuation will be initiated.

The team from the fire brigade at Dublin Airport was on site quickly and gave the all-clear, because nothing could be detected even with a special thermal imaging camera. The engines were switched off and a visual inspection directly on the landing gear also showed that there was no development of heat or fire. The machine was then towed to the parking position and the few passengers were able to leave the Boeing 737-800 normally. According to the fire brigade, there was no danger to the passengers, probably a sensor may have reacted a little over-sensitive.

The airline Ryanair said of the incident: “The crew on this flight from London Stansted to Dublin (February 21, 2021) discovered a minor technical problem with the aircraft when landing at Dublin Airport. In accordance with the procedures, the crew notified the ATC, the passengers disembarked normally and the aircraft will be inspected by Ryanair engineers ”.
