Just a few weeks ago, the low-cost airline Wizz Air started flights to Albanian Kukes. However, demand appears to be in need of serious improvement as the carrier will temporarily suspend three out of four routes after the 2022 summer holidays.

Wizz Air currently offers flights to Kukes from Vienna, Basel, Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden and Memmingen. This airport was newly built and has therefore not been online for long. Due to its proximity to Kosovo, the aim is to position itself as a cheap alternative to Pristina Airport. However, after the 2022 summer holidays, demand seems to be significantly lower than originally assumed by the low-cost airline.

Wizz Air will pause Kukes flights from Vienna and Basel from September 19 until the end of October 2022. From Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, this airport will not be approached between October 3rd and October 29th, 2022. Only from the Bavarian Memmingen no reductions or temporary suspensions are currently planned.

On request, a spokeswoman told Aviation.Direct: “Due to lower demand, the routes are temporarily paused at these times. However, these are only seasonal adjustments, the routes will not be discontinued but will continue to be served".
