The Portuguese airline Azores Airlines plans to fly twice a week between Düsseldorf and Ponta Delgada from March 27, 2022. The flights are to be operated with the aircraft types Airbus A320 and A321neo.
The Sata sister company is currently planning to fly Thursday and Sunday from Düsseldorf to the Azores Island (Ilha de São Miguel. The carrier's fleet currently consists of three Airbus A320, two A321neo, three A321LR and one A330-200.
Both Azores Airlines and Sata are under financial pressure due to the corona pandemic. The regional government of the Azores wants the group of companies support with the help of a capital increase. Sata is responsible for the regional routes and operates turboprop aircraft. Azores Airlines is a jet operator and operates on longer routes.
