Easyjet: Demand for flights increases as expected

The British airline is expected to leave the corona crisis behind after a loss in the past half-year.

"We remain confident that we will reach close to the flight level of 2019 this summer," said Easyjet CEO Johan Lundgren on Tuesday. Since the lifting of Corona travel restrictions at the beginning of the year, bookings have recovered strongly. From April to June, the offer will reach 90 percent of the same period in the pre-crisis year of 2019, after 67 percent in the last quarter. The daily booking volume for the summer is currently even higher than at the same time three years ago.

The low-cost airline said in a press release that the first half of the business year was better than expected despite increased fuel costs and the wave of omicron infections. In the period from October to March, the consolidated loss before tax was in a range between £535 and £565 million (same period last year: £645 million) on sales of £1,5 billion (previous year: £240 million).
