The low-cost airline Easyjet has opened a new base in the United Kingdom after more than ten years. It is the ninth base that the British low-coster maintains in its home country.

From Birmingham, Easyjet will gradually add 2024 additional routes in the 16 summer flight schedule. These are mainly operated with locally stationed aircraft. According to the company's own information, 140 employees will be employed at the new base. The aim is to increase frequencies significantly on existing routes.

Easyjet also justifies the base opening by saying that around 83 percent of residents in Wales and England can reach this airport within two hours by car. Furthermore, it would be an important economic area of the United Kingdom. In this region alone, the economy would be larger and stronger than that of the entire Hungarian state, which is considered to be massively structurally weak.

“Today our growing partnership with EasyJet reaches new heights as the airline bases three aircraft here at Birmingham Airport. Customers can now take advantage of the airline's 16 new routes and have the flexibility to book just one flight or a complete package holiday. EasyJet has been a partner airline for 17 years. “Their expansion here at Birmingham Airport is testament to the service, quality, price, reliability and choice of destinations that customers have come to expect from EasyJet,” said Birmingham Managing Director Nick Barton.

Easyjet already had Birmingham Airport in its route network, but no aircraft had yet been stationed there. The fact that they see great growth potential for the group's own tour operator Easyjet Holidays also contributed to the decision to open the base. Therefore, routes such as Sharm El Sheik, Antalya, Dalaman and Palma de Malllorca are also offered. According to their own information, they are now offering the most extensive summer flight schedule to date from Birmingham.
