The Latvian Smartlynx has concluded a long-term ACMI contract with Easyjet and will fly with three Airbus A320s from London-Gatwick for the low-coster. Another machine is to be used on behalf of Easyjet Europe from mainland Europe.
The British low-cost airline has greatly increased its offer from the second largest airport in the United Kingdom. In some cases, take-off and landing rights are rented from competitors in order to be able to grow further. The company said earlier this year that it would lease wet-lease capacity to cover peaks during the summer 2022 schedule. However, an exact number of aircraft was not given. Smartlynx currently has three Airbus A320s flying from Gatwick for Easyjet.
The Austrian sister company Easyjet Europe, which was launched as part of Brexit, will use at least one Smartlynx Airbus A320 from mainland Europe. The machine also serves as a backup aircraft. This wet lease aircraft has not yet been given a fixed station.
