Shortly after the approval of the first Covid vaccine, there was euphoria in the aviation and tourism industry that summer 2021 would be strong business and a rapid recovery would occur. Meanwhile, people are no longer so optimistic, as is Easyjet boss Johan Lundgren.

The manager said during the “Straight Talk”, which was organized by Eurocontrol, that he expects tough competition, because all airlines will try to transport as many customers as possible. Due to the slow progress in vaccination in the European Union, demand could be subdued for even longer.

Lundgren said he expected there will be "potholes" on the recovery path. The Easyjet boss took the view that the recovery in demand is directly related to the progress of vaccination. He hopes that uniform rules for air travel will be introduced within the EU. In this context, the low-cost airline has high hopes for the Green pass.

According to Lundgren, it will take longer than initially thought for the industry to recover. He sees Easyjet in a good position because it has been able to reduce costs. The airline boss criticized the high level of government aid that went to competitors, but did not name any competitor.
