Easyjet has developed a new, lighter paint finish together with paint manufacturer Mankiewicz Aviation Coatings to reduce the aircraft's fuel consumption. The innovative system has already been applied to 38 aircraft and is to be rolled out to the entire fleet by 2030. The lighter paint finish reduces the weight of the aircraft by 27 kilograms per aircraft, resulting in a total saving potential of 1.296 tons of fuel and 4.095 tons of CO2 emissions.
This move is part of Easyjet's overall strategy to reduce the airline's environmental footprint. Combined with other measures such as fleet renewal and improving operational efficiency, the new livery will help reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The rolling emissions of the new livery by 2030 are expected to save a total of 1.296 tonnes of fuel per year, making an important contribution to achieving Easyjet's sustainability goals.
Lahiru Ranasinghe, Director of Sustainability at Easyjet, stressed that the development of this paintwork represents a further step in the company's ongoing work to reduce its operational impact on the environment. Mankiewicz Aviation Coatings and MAAS Aviation, responsible for applying the paint, also underlined the importance of this project in the context of their partners' sustainability strategy.
