Easyjet CEO Johan Lundgren assumes that air traffic will most likely not reach the level of 2023 before 2019. At the same time, he criticized the Evening Standard for the high costs of corona tests and the complexity of the entry and quarantine regulations.
The manager still understands the need for the immediate measures taken in spring, but after that too little has happened at European level. “We know the only factor preventing customers from booking and traveling is restrictions like quarantine. That is why it is so important that governments have a roadmap to lift restrictions when more people are vaccinated and when it is safe to do so, ”said Lundgren.
The manager is therefore calling for the corona tests required to enter many countries to become cheaper. “It's unaffordable for most people and families right now. The tests just have to get cheaper. If you add the current prices for the tests to the travel price, then only wealthy people can fly ”. In some places there are also costs for quarantine hotels. “We don't want to meet normal, hard-working families who couldn't take a vacation before companies like Easyjet. That can't be the right thing, it just creates further divisions in society ”.
Lundgren does not find the proposal that is currently circulating in politics that people who have already been vaccinated should receive travel facilitation or even introduce compulsory vaccinations in air traffic: "It is important to know whether you have the virus or not, which is why we are should test now cheaply and quickly. I don't think the idea of compulsory vaccination for travel is a solution ”.
