A seven-day strike by cabin crew at Tap Air Portugal was called off almost at the last minute. The trade union SNPVAC announced that the walkouts will not take place because they received a much improved offer from the employer, which was accepted by a large majority at a general meeting called at short notice.
Previously, the fronts between the two bargaining parties had hardened. The workers' representatives had announced a week-long strike that was to start on Wednesday, January 25, 2023. The airline concerned announced shortly thereafter that that 1.316 flights have to be canceled. It will not come to that because an agreement has been reached.
Ricardo Penarroias, chairman of the SNPVAC union, said that both sides had made massive rapprochement and concessions. The compromise that has been agreed upon should be satisfactory for both employees and the company. The basis for the announced strike would thus no longer apply.
