Since the bankruptcy of Darwin Airline and the withdrawal of Swiss, there are only a few scheduled flights at Lugano Airport in Ticino. In direct comparison with other Swiss airports, the charter sector is also rather weak. The Elba flights, which will be operated by Silver Air again this year, are at least a small ray of hope.

The region around Lake Maggiore has a lot to offer in terms of tourism, but Lugano-Agno Airport has been on the decline for several years. There was once a dense Crossair network, but this was gradually reduced. Darwin Airline was also increasingly trying to venture outside of its home base. The bankruptcy of the carrier, which last appeared as Adria Airways Switzerland, led to the loss of scheduled routes. The withdrawal of Swiss then also sealed the end of the hub connections. During the corona pandemic, you even had to file for bankruptcy.

At times there was a project to set up our own carrier, but it became extremely quiet again. However, it is not completely quiet in Lugano, as the airport is used extensively by general and business aviation. This is the main clientele of Ticino Airport. There have been no regular scheduled flights for some time.

From June 18, 2023, the Czech Silver Air will again be operating charter flights to Marina di Campo on behalf of Flights&Travel. These have been offered for many years - with a temporary interruption during the corona pandemic. Let 410 turboprop aircraft are used. The small machines operate on Wednesdays and Sundays, although according to the flight schedule available, the Wednesday rotation is not carried out in the calendar month of August. The seasonal flights are limited until September 24, 2023.

Other airports that Silver Air will connect with Marina di Campo (Elba) in the 2023 summer timetable are: Bologna, Milan-Linate, Florence and Pisa. In the past there were also flights from Milan-Malpensa and Rome-Ciampino, but these have not been launched in the current season.

The Let 410 machine used was manufactured in the Czech Republic and is considered to be extremely robust. The Stol pattern is also able to take off and land on unpaved runways. The small commercial aircraft has a range of 1.400 kilometers and can carry a maximum of 19 passengers. The maximum speed is 366 kilometers per hour.
