Emirates airline has set another milestone in passenger aviation with the introduction and expansion of its Premium Economy cabin. Since its premiere in August 2022, the new class, which bridges the gap between Economy and Business, has quickly become a highlight of the airline's offering. With over 40 modernized aircraft and availability on flights to 27 destinations worldwide, Emirates is showing how comfort, design and service can be redefined.
A Boeing 777, which has the new Premium Economy Class, has been in service on the Dubai-Vienna route for a few days now. This week, Emirates Airline invited passengers to a small celebration to mark the milestone. Other classes of travel on this aircraft type are First, Business and Economy.
expansion of the Premium Economy offer
40 aircraft, including 27 Airbus A380s and 13 Boeing 777s, have already been equipped with Premium Economy and serve the airline's global route network. Three A350 aircraft complement the offering on additional routes. Vienna is the latest European destination to be served by Emirates with a converted Boeing 777. This means that Emirates remains the only airline to serve Vienna in a 4-class configuration.
The response to the new class has been positive, as evidenced by several industry awards, including the "Best Premium Economy" award from AirlineRatings.com. In addition to Vienna, London, Paris and Sydney are also among the popular destinations served with Premium Economy.
New design and improved comfort
Emirates' Premium Economy cabin sets standards in terms of comfort and amenities. The seats are covered in cream-colored leather, have decorative stitching and polished wooden tables that create an elegant ambience. The seat pitch of up to 102 centimeters, six-way adjustable headrests and leg and calf supports guarantee maximum comfort, while the 23-inch screen of the "ice" entertainment system provides entertainment.
The cabin is arranged in a 2-4-2 configuration, with different seating capacities offered depending on the aircraft type: 56 seats in the Airbus A380, 28 seats in the Airbus A350 and 24 seats in the Boeing 777.
Emirates promises high-quality cuisine
Premium Economy also stands out for its gastronomic offerings. Travelers can look forward to monthly changing gourmet menus served on the finest china. Welcome drinks, a selection of fine wines and champagne, as well as Lavazza coffee and Dilmah tea round off the culinary experience. Children and frequent flyers benefit from special options such as child-friendly meals and varied menus.
Conversion work in full swing
The aircraft are being converted by a team of 175 engineers and technicians in Dubai. The work includes the complete dismantling of the old cabin equipment and the installation of new seats and decorative elements. The process, which took a total of 777 working hours for the first Boeing 18.000, was completed in just 37 days.
777 square metres of carpet, 330 square metres of leather and 8.000 litres of paint were used to equip a Boeing 300. These figures illustrate the enormous effort that Emirates is investing in modernising its fleet.
