The first A380 (A6-EDA) ever delivered to Emirates is currently being dismantled to recycle its individual parts.
The initiative aims to reduce landfill waste to a minimum. To this end, Emirates is working with Falcon Aircraft Recycling and its partner Wings Craft. The two companies dismantle the decommissioned A380 aircraft in order to reuse the components through upcycling or recycling. The range of objects is diverse: a coffee table made from an A380 main wheel, a clock made from a wing fuel panel or the gold-plated Emirates logo of the first class cabin. Larger items are also available, such as the A380 lounge bar or the 24-meter-high aircraft tail with the flag of the United Arab Emirates.
“The dismantling of the aircraft at our facility is still in progress. We follow the strictest government guidelines and use best practices to minimize waste and environmental pollution. The A380 is a special aircraft that deserves a meaningful second life. The Emirates A380 has so many iconic features that there will be a demand for bespoke one-offs. We are working closely with Wings Craft to bring more unique items to market as new parts and materials become available, ”said Andrew Tonks, Director of Falcon Aircraft Recycling.
