The United States of America is currently examining the lifting of travel bans for people from Brazil, the United Kingdom, Ireland and a total of 26 European countries. However, President Donald Trump has not made a final decision.
Nothing will change for non-US citizens who were last in China or Iran, reports Reuters. At the beginning of the corona pandemic, the USA imposed a strict entry ban on many European countries. However, their own citizens were excluded at all times.
Although the Corona Task Force and some federal authorities have issued their recommendations on how to implement the plan, the final decision rests with the recently voted out US President Donald Trump. Whether and when he will follow the recommendations is completely unclear and unpredictable. The authorities argue that the lifting of the entry ban for EU citizens would make no sense at all, because globally, the vast majority of states would not have any restrictions.
However, it is also feared that many European countries could prohibit travel to the United States or could impose a quarantine on return. Conversely, Donald Trump could also use the currently high number of infections in Europe as an argument for not lifting the entry ban. In any case, it is expected that if the restrictions are relaxed, transatlantic air traffic will get a little boost again. This would primarily help the US carriers. There are currently only a few exceptions for the 26 Schengen states, for example business travelers, investors, students, journalists and diplomats. However, approval must be obtained in advance.
The American epidemic agency CDC has meanwhile also issued recommendations for international passengers. These should be tested about one to three days before departure and tested again about three to five days after you return. It is also recommended that a seven-day quarantine should be observed. However, it is currently only a draft and not a binding regulation.
