The Estonian government intends to support Nordica and its operating subsidiary Xfly (formerly Regional Jet) with 22 million euros. The capital contribution is to be made in the form of new shares. The funds must be used to pay ongoing debts and lease and maintenance costs.
Nordica was launched as the successor to the insolvent Estonian Air. They do not have their own AOC, because the operational implementation was initially carried out by Adria Airways. Later the subsidiary Regional Jet (now Xfly) received its own certificates. The new cooperation partner was then the Polish LOT, because all flights were marketed under these flight numbers. In the previous year, the connections under the Nordica brand were abandoned. However, partner LOT continues some connections.
Xfly works as an ACMI partner for various airlines. For example, you fly on behalf of SAS and LOT. The Polish company holds 49 percent of the Nordic Aviation Group. The majority is owned by the State of Estonia. Recently there were efforts in local politics that the Polish partner should be bought out and that Nordica should be active again under its own brand from Estonia.
