Etihad raises $ 1,2 billion environmental loan

Advertising

Golf carrier Etihad Airways has taken out an additional loan of US $ 1,2 billion. Allegedly this should be linked to environmental goals. Last year it received a transition loan of $ 600 million.

The new loan will be disbursed through HSBC and First Abu Dhabi Bank. According to the company's own information, the funds will be used to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions of the fleet. You also want to use it to purchase additional aircraft if necessary.

It seems unusual that on the one hand it should be a private sector loan and on the other hand high environmental requirements are imposed. This is actually not common with loans granted by banks. In any case, it will be paid out in two tranches of $ 500 million and $ 700 million.
