The competition authorities in Brussels have no objections to the state aid for the Lufthansa subsidiary Austrian Airlines. However, approval is still pending in Germany.
On Monday evening, the EU Commission gave the green light to the rescue package that was put together for Austrian Airlines. According to the carrier, this is a total of 600 million euros, of which 150 million euros will flow in the form of a direct grant from the Republic of Austria.
Most of the prerequisites for the implementation of the Austrian Airlines aid package are now in place, only the approval of the Economic Stabilization Fund (WSF) of the German federal government is still pending.
“The most challenging months in the history of our Austrian Airlines lie behind us. With the green light from the EU Commission, we can now look to the future with confidence and give the Austrian economy a full boost again. We are very grateful for that, ”said Austrian Airlines CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech about the decision.
