EU Commission evaluates tightening for entries from the USA

It was only in mid-June 2021 that the EU Commission unilaterally lifted the entry ban for people who were in the United States of America. This did not always apply to people with residence or citizenship in the EU. Now people in Brussels are thinking out loud about reintroducing it.

The entry ban for EU citizens to the United States of America, which was enacted under the Trump administration, has not yet been lifted. Although there are initial signs that the Biden administration is at least thinking about it, nothing has yet been implemented.

The EU Commission is concerned about the new infections in the USA and is now evaluating a new entry ban. The governing body of the European Union can only make basic recommendations, because the actual implementation is incumbent on the members of the international community.

For airlines that are active in the transatlantic business, a renewed EU ban would be a major setback. It was hoped that at least those who had been vaccinated would soon be able to travel in both directions again without further restrictions. However, it is still unclear whether the EU Commission or the national states will exempt completely vaccinated persons from a possible new entry ban or not. With regard to the USA, it is becoming apparent that in the future there could be a compulsory vaccination for entry.
