EU has slightly eased aviation sanctions against Russia

The European Union has again adjusted the sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation. In the area of spare parts for commercial aircraft, there is minimal easing, which was downright celebrated on the Moscow stock exchange, as Aeroflot shares rose significantly.

While the sanctions are formulated in detail in most areas, the area of commercial aviation is kept rather short. The EU Commission now considers it “appropriate” to “allow the exchange of technical assistance with Russia for aviation goods and technologies to the extent necessary to ensure the work of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in setting technical industry standards” .

Western sanctions prohibit the export and sale or transfer of all aircraft, parts and equipment to the country, as well as all related repair, maintenance, financial services and leasing. The change now means minimal relaxation.
