Citizens of the European Union are currently not allowed to enter the United States of America. Now the EU is considering defining the US as an “unsafe area” with regard to Corona.

The border restrictions within the EU are falling more and more - from July 1, 2020, the European Union would like to introduce new regulations for travel from other continents. In the future there should be a list of “Acceptable Travelers” from countries outside Europe, like the "New York Times" reported to whom this listing should be available. This means that there are no countries like Russia or Brazil, whose infection rates are still very high. The USA, which with more than 2,3 million cases and 120.000 deaths, continues to be one of the world's corona hot spots, should also not make it onto this list. However, entry from China is still not recommended.

This new regulation should be published next week, according to the article. For the EU member states, however, it should be seen more as a recommendation - each state ultimately makes its own decisions here. At the moment, entry into EU countries from outside Europe is for the most part - but with a few exceptions - not permitted. Conversely, US President Donald Trump no longer allowed travelers from many European countries in March because the number of infections on the old continent was significantly higher than in the USA. In the meantime the tide has turned.

The EU recommendation could in any case have consequences for the resurgent passenger traffic between Europe and the USA. Austrian Airlines intends to offer flights again between Vienna and New York (Newark), Washington and Chicago on July 1, 2020.
