At EU level, the conditions have been created for the Covid certificates introduced in the previous year to be extended by one year for the time being. The ordinance is to be extended by one year until June 30, 2023.

However, the nation states continue to determine the validity period of tests, vaccinations and recovery themselves. The only consequence of the decision is that the “Green Passport” itself will continue to exist. Without this agreement, it would have expired on June 30, 2022.

The EU Commission had already proposed in February 2022 that the project should be extended. But the talks and negotiations have dragged on for a long time. It is believed that this system will make travel much easier. Currently, only a few EU countries require you to present Covid certificates upon entry. Malta, for example, is one of the holiday countries that continue to practice the 3G rule and insist on certificates with a readable QR code.
