The EU Commission once again gave the green light for Condor state aid. The court of the European Union had previously overturned the approval, but gave the competition officials the opportunity to improve the reasoning.
Specifically, aid in the amount of 525 million euros was waved through. Previously, Condor had already received loans of around 550 million euros. Ryanair sued against the approval of the state aid funds and prevailed in the first instance. The EU Commission has now improved the reason. According to the information from the authority, the judgment was taken into account and the actual damage caused by the corona pandemic is now used as the basis. Anything beyond that, Condor has to repay along with interest.
The case is not completely over yet, because competitors could again appeal against the amended decision of the EU Commission. It is very likely that Ryanair will take this step.
