The EU Commission has revised the “black list” of airlines and now allows airlines that are in the Republic of Moldova to fly to the European Union. It was stated that flight safety has improved dramatically.
A total of 90 airlines from 15 countries are not allowed to fly to the European Union due to safety concerns. For example, all airlines from Afghanistan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Sudan are banned. Furthermore, Avior Airlines, Blue Wing Airlines, Iran Aseman Airlines, Iraqi Airways, Medview Airlines, Skol Airline and Air Zimbabwe are not authorized to fly to the EU. Incidentally, the Russian Skol airline has made it onto the negative list.
Air Koryo and Iran Air are not allowed to approach the Union area with all aircraft. Only individual aircraft are permitted for EU flights. Sometimes the black list has only symbolic meaning because the airlines in some distant states do not even have aircraft with the appropriate range. For others, the carrier is hit hard. In some cases, wet-lease solutions are also used, so that ACMI providers who are registered in the EU fly on behalf of the banned airlines.
