Bad news has become a habit for the aviation industry in times of Corona. In between, however, there are positive things to report: The European Commission intends to extend the waiver of so-called slots for aircraft by a further six months.

"The volume of air traffic is still low" and it is unlikely that it will recover too soon, says Transport Commissioner Adina Valean from the news portal "Swiss Aviation“Quoted. In order to give the airlines a certain planning security in these dark times, she wants to extend the exemption up to and including March 2021.

A big stone should fall from the hearts of the airlines. As a rule, 80 percent of the assigned take-off and landing rights must actually be used. Otherwise you will lose it in the next year. Due to the corona-related travel restrictions, airlines had to remove a number of routes from the program. Almost no carrier could have met the minimum requirements - ghost flights just to protect take-off and landing rights threatened. It doesn’t seem to have to come to that anymore.
