At the moment the situation is extremely tense for almost all European airlines. In Portugal there is now open discussion about whether TAP Air Portugal and its competitor Euro Atlantic Airways could possibly cooperate closely.

In Parliament there was talk of a possible partnership between the two carriers. The government is open-minded and open to this idea. Many details have not yet been discussed or decided. It is also completely unclear whether the two companies could possibly merge or only cooperate in the area of sales.

Euro Atlantic Airways has already held preliminary talks with the unions. However, these were not of a binding nature, but rather the views of the employee representatives should flow into possible official negotiations with TAP Air Portugal. With this approach, Euro Atlantic obviously wants to prevent significant resistance from occurring.

“A partnership between TAP and Euro Atlantic Airways would clearly be of value to both companies. There is widespread availability on our side that we want to be part of the TAP recovery solution. We have immediate technical and operational capacities to enter into commitments and create cooperation projects, ”Euro-Atlantic boss Eugénio Fernandes told Jornal Económico.

He also said that operational and technical areas, code sharing, human resources, company buildings and training could all be considered for cooperation. However, possible details would have to be negotiated. The goal is very clear: The two carriers should save costs together and not destroy each other's prices.
