The stricter rules for taking hand luggage into force at Eurowings have been in effect since Tuesday. These concern bookings in the Basic tariff class. It's a kind of blueprint from competitors Ryanair and Wizz Air.
If you book the Basic tariff from August 31, 2021, you can only take a small bag with the maximum dimensions 40x30x25 centimeters on board at Eurowings. If you want to take the classic trolley in the IATA standard format with you, you have to book the priority package. This costs at least ten euros per person and route. However, the pricing is dynamic, so that no general statement can be made about the actual costs.
As with the competitors Ryanair and Wizzair, you can take a small bag (40x30x25 centimeters) and a trolley in IATA standard format with you with “Priority Boarding”. The Smart and Biz tariff classes are not affected by the changeover. Existing flight tickets that were issued before the changeover are also grandfathered. The old rules are still applied to these.
The change in hand luggage regulations primarily serves to increase income, which Eurowings denies. Among other things, one writes: "The new hand luggage guideline also helps to minimize delays caused by hand luggage so that Eurowings customers can reach their destination with one of the most punctual airlines in Europe in 2021."
