Due to weak demand, the Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings is currently revising its planning for the fall. Company boss Jens Bischof said in a video conference that the occupancy rate has decreased by about a quarter in the last few days. This would be due in particular to the fact that passengers from tour operators are absent.
In particular, the fact that Germany has declared the EU country Spain a risk area has a negative effect on demand at Eurowings. A drop of around 30 percent was immediately recorded.
The further development is still being observed and no adjustments to the flight plan are yet to be made. However - according to Bischof - no further machines could be reactivated for the time being. 51 aircraft are currently in use and that could stay that way for the time being, because the manager sees around 50 aircraft as a realistic fleet size for the winter flight plan. Eurowings is currently planning 2021 machines for the summer of 80. Work is also being carried out on other additional products, which Bishop described as “a kind of corona insurance”. The airline boss has not yet announced any further details.
