In March next year, Eurowings will set up another base at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport. For the time being, five Airbus A320s will be stationed at the Swedish airport. Competitor Ryanair is relocating the offer that was previously offered from Skavsta to Arlanda in the winter flight schedule 2021/2022.

Stockholm becomes the eleventh Eurowings location in Europe - and after Palma de Mallorca, Prague, Pristina and Salzburg the fifth base outside the home market of Germany. “Sweden is a market that fits perfectly with our focus as a value carrier for Europe. Since the pandemic, many travelers are no longer looking for the cheapest ticket first, but for an airline that they can trust unconditionally in terms of safety, reliability and social responsibility. With our Lufthansa DNA, an attractive network of inexpensive direct flights and a clearly sharpened customer focus, we can offer exactly that, ”says Eurowings boss Jens Bischof.

The new base is scheduled to open on March 27, 2022. The first step is to offer around 20 destinations from Sweden's largest airport. The first published routes from Stockholm include popular sun destinations in southern Europe, such as Palma on the Balearic island of Mallorca, Alicante and Malaga in Spain, Faro in Portugal and Nice in southern France. As a first step, Eurowings is adding the cities of Berlin, Barcelona, Rome and Copenhagen to its program as city destinations, as well as Birmingham, Gdansk and the capital of Kosovo, Pristina. Other destinations will follow in the next few weeks.

Due to the fact that the competitor Ryanair will almost completely relocate the Stockholm service to Arlanda, a price war is looming there. Norwegian Air Shuttle has so far been strongly represented in the low-cost segment, but this provider has been weak for a long time due to financial reasons. According to unconfirmed rumors, Wizz Air is also in negotiations with the Arlanda management about a possible move from Skavsta to the largest airport.
