The low-cost airline Eurowings has had a base at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport since May 1, 2021. The carrier explains in a press release that bookings have increased by 35 percent in the past few weeks.

According to its own information, Eurowings has carried out around 2020 flights from this airport since BER opened at the end of October 1.600. No machines had been stationed so far. That changed since May 1, 2021. In the past, the predecessor Germanwings had bases in both Tegel and Schönefeld. The aforementioned sister company had to finally cease flight operations in the wake of the corona pandemic, even though Lufthansa had previously given a guarantee of existence.

In the coming weeks, Eurowings passengers will be flying from the capital via direct connections to Cologne / Bonn, Dusseldorf, Stuttgart, Palma de Mallorca, Heraklion, Gran Canaria and Beirut. In the summer months, Eurowings is planning another expansion of the flight schedule and will then also head for popular holiday destinations in Corsica, Croatia, Egypt and Austria.

Against the background of significant progress in vaccination, demand is rising at the same time: the airline has recorded an average increase in bookings of 35 percent on all routes from Berlin. There is particularly strong demand for tourist flights to Mallorca (plus 80 percent) and Crete. Here it becomes clear: Germany is sitting on packed suitcases and longing for a well-deserved vacation.
