A Boeing 737-500, which was previously in service with the defunct Russian airline Transaero, has found its way to Iran. The 23-year-old medium-haul jet went into operation at Taban Air at the end of March.

According to CH-Aviation.com, the Boeing 737-500 with the MSN 28922 was standing around for a long period of time at Kiev-Schuljany Airport after the bankruptcy of Transaero. The plane was auctioned off and a middleman from Burundi won the bid. However, this is said to have acted as a "straw man" for a travel agency in Iran. The former VP-BYO rents this to Taban Air.

In Iran, the former Transaero machine is now registered as EP-RBC. The carrier confirmed that said aircraft was officially put into scheduled service on April 1, 2021. The company did not provide any information about procurement via an intermediary in Africa.
