The expedition ship Fridtjof Nansen ran aground near the Norwegian port of Måløy on Wednesday morning. According to official information, the ship could still enter the port, but all passengers were disembarked.

Initially, the passengers were accommodated in hotels in Ålesund and then flown to Hamburg, Germany. According to the shipping company, the sea conditions were unfavorable at the time of the ground contact. So there should have been wind speeds of up to 130 kilometers per hour. Through contact with the ocean floor, the ship received initial information about damage to the propulsion system and the hull. More detailed investigations are still ongoing.

The cruise began on January 2, 2022 in Hamburg and drove along the coast of Norway. The plan was to return to Germany on January 16, 2022. Due to the incident, the exit was canceled prematurely. The shipping company Hurtigruten assures the passengers that all costs for the overnight stay and meals on land as well as the unscheduled flight home will be covered. Furthermore, one wants to make individual compensation offers.
