The Upper Austrian aviation supplier FACC AG will in future also be active for the Airbus A220 series. In doing so, tail components will be manufactured.

“In order to prove itself as an innovative, stable and reliable partner at Airbus and other important customers, FACC has invested over 10 million euros in its plants and highly automated systems over the past 500 years. This is also a commitment to the location and to our crew, ”says FACC boss Robert Machtlinger. “The Province of Upper Austria was always at our side as a close partner during these challenging times. We are now all the more pleased to be able to create new jobs with the new order from Airbus and, at the same time, to strengthen the region in the long term ”.

The Airbus A220 aircraft impress with the latest technology and are the most efficient in their class, with low operating costs and low noise levels. The new order for this successful family of aircraft positions FACC as an important technology partner of Airbus in the long term and supports the company's growth strategy for the future.

The project includes the manufacture and assembly of the rudder and elevator and represents a further milestone for FACC in the partnership with Airbus . FACC has achieved an international pioneering role through intensified research and development work, ”says Robert Machtlinger. "That is certainly a major reason why Airbus is now using FACC's know-how for the tail unit components of the A220".

The elevator and rudder serve to control and stabilize the aircraft in the air and therefore play a central role in the flight operations of the Airbus A220. The technical requirements for the production of the primary structural elements are correspondingly high and complex: For example, the production of the rudder with a length of 6,4 meters and width of 1,9 meters requires not only the greatest precision but also intensive logistical management. A well thought-out manufacturing concept and the manufacture of the metal components in-house at FACC using a highly efficient automated 5-axis CNC milling machine will ensure compliance with the high technical requirements.
