On Thursday, the passengers of Austrian Airlines flight OS405, operated with the Embraer 195 with the registration OE-LWG, were prepared for an emergency landing at Lyon airport as a precaution. The pilots managed to land the regional jet safely.
The Embraer 195 was en route from Vienna to Lyon on an unspectacular scheduled flight. When extending the landing gear, however, the cockpit crew was confronted with an error message. As a precaution, air traffic control was informed and a few loops were flown. After the master had carried out several checks together with the first officer, it was clear that everything is OK with the landing gear, but that the corresponding display in the cockpit is faulty.
A spokeswoman for Austrian Airlines confirmed the technical incident and explained: "On today's flight OS 405 from Vienna to Lyon, an error message occurred during the landing approach when the landing gear was extended. After several checks, it turned out that the error message was wrong. The plane landed safely. As the safety of our passengers and crew is always our top priority, all appropriate security measures have been taken as usual. For example, the passengers were prepared as a precaution for a possible emergency landing and Lyon Airport was also informed”.
The Embraer 195, registration OE-LWG, is still based at Lyon Airport. The return flight OS406 planned with this machine was cancelled. Technicians check the regional jet more closely, because there shouldn't be any faulty displays in the cockpit. In this specific case, the machine had no safety-related problem, even if the display was different.
