February 2024 was particularly successful for the United Kingdom's largest airport, London Heathrow. A new monthly record was set with 5,8 million passengers.

In the wake of the corona pandemic, Heathrow has repeatedly found itself in the negative headlines because there were unreasonably long waiting times due to a lack of staff. As an emergency measure, capacity even had to be temporarily limited. Despite improving demand, some carriers have been forced to reduce their offerings. At the same time, the airport was in the crossfire due to fee increases.

There seems to be no sign of this in February 2024, because with 5,8 million passengers, the largest airport in the United Kingdom had more passengers than ever before in a single calendar month. The fact that this year is a leap year doesn't matter at all, because the highest mark could easily have been reached in 28 days. According to Heathrow Airport, “only” 29 travelers were traveling on February 2024, 207.000.

Management is confident that it will be able to set a new annual record this year. The airlines’ registrations would speak for this. At the same time, we hear from them that the advance booking figures for the traditionally busy summer should be “very good”.

Recently, Heathrow was also able to grow in the cargo segment. Compared to the same month last year, there was an increase of 21 percent, which is significantly higher than competing European airports. Some airports in Europe continue to report declines. Seen worldwide, the increase in February 2024 was an average of eight percent.
