The Austrian Armed Forces received 20 new Volkswagen Crafter 4Motion rescue vehicles from Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner (ÖVP) on Thursday. These are "commercially equipped emergency ambulances" that are used in the medical sector.

After 20 "VW T6 4 Motion" ambulances were introduced in the middle of last year, 20 additional "VW Crafter 4 Motion" vehicles have now been handed over to the troops. The vehicle has a 4-stroke turbocharged diesel engine; 130 kW/177 hp; 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The increased budget has thus made it possible to continue the renewal course of the army for 2022.

"Especially during the corona pandemic, we saw how important it is to have fast and functioning medical supplies, and I am therefore pleased to be able to hand over the new emergency ambulances to the troops. With these important procurement measures, we will gradually reduce the investment backlog of recent years in order to continue to make a significant contribution to the protection of the republic and the population," said Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner.
