Missing Spare Parts: Indigo has to ground 30 planes

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The low-cost airline Indigo has to leave around ten percent of its fleet, but at least 30 aircraft, on the ground for lack of spare parts. The company explains that there are weeks of delivery delays and some parts are not available at all.

The consequence of this is that aircraft increasingly have to be temporarily shut down because they are no longer allowed to fly due to a lack of available but required spare parts. People are looking for alternatives, but there is pretty much nothing available on the market for certified used parts either.

Airbus A320 and A320neo aircraft are affected. The carrier now has to compensate for the failures with quite expensive ones Compensate for wet lease operations. Indigo's fleet currently consists of 279 aircraft. In addition to "normal" spare parts, engines for the A320neo are currently in short supply. Both Pratt & Whitney and CFM are currently unable to deliver new engines to Airbus due to problems in the supply chain.
