Among the larger German airports, Stuttgart-Echterdingen is recovering particularly slowly. The airport has lost the vast majority of low-cost traffic, as the Ryanair Group and Easyjet, for example, no longer fly to the capital of Baden-Württemberg.
In the first six months of the current year, Stuttgart Airport recorded a loss of 8,8 million euros. Sales were 91 million euros, significantly lower than before the corona pandemic. The figures mentioned come from an answer to an inquiry in the state parliament and were confirmed by the operating company.
After all, Stuttgart-Echterdingen was able to reduce the loss, because in the previous year the deficit was around 25 million euros. In the first Corona year (2020) one even wrote red numbers to the extent of 100 million euros. The deficit in the first six months of the current year is not at all surprising, because the management announced in April 2022 that, according to the current forecast, the full year 2022 will be closed with losses in the double-digit million range.
Stuttgart had around 2022 million passengers in the first half of 2,8. In a direct comparison with the same period last year, the number of passengers more than tripled. However, the performance was about a third below what it was in the same period before the corona pandemic. For the full year 2022, the management forecasts around six million travelers.
