Finnair is following up on its threat and laying off 700 employees - 600 of whom are employed in Finland alone.

But those affected do not have to leave the company upright, they can continue their work until the end of March 2021 at the latest. This wave of layoffs is said to be far from over. In addition, the airline will continue to lay off employees temporarily in order to hire them again at a later date. According to its own information, this will affect thousands of jobs, and the company has a total of 6.500 employees worldwide. The airline cannot rule out further measures at this point in time.

“This is a very sad day at Finnair. Unfortunately we cannot change the situation. Had there been other solutions, we would not have hesitated and would have kept the jobs. But the corona pandemic is demanding everything from the aviation industry, ”said Topi Manner, CEO of Finnair. These drastic measures are necessary and inevitable in order to fly out of this crisis. “We are forced to do a lot of things differently in the future”.
